2018 Volkswagen Passat North Charleston SC

The interesting thing about Volkswagen, as a brand, is that this German automaker has managed to catch the attention and interest of very different shoppers. While vehicles like the Beetle pull at a feeling of nostalgia, and the Golf GTI thrills shoppers for its performance, the 2018 Volkswagen Passat sits as a respectable and refined option for North Charleston SC shoppers. While many modern sedans have clear cost-cutting efforts that leave them lagging behind and less than impressive in the cabin, the Passat continues to impress.

Consider it the non-luxury, but high-end midsize option. VW offers plushy interior to the 2018 VW Passat, despite a new, chiseled appearance that was introduced just last year. Materials are all high-quality, well-fitted and built to last. This impression is only enhanced when you start the engine, as an updated 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder TSI offers a slight boost to horsepower while providing better fuel economy compared to the previous model year.

Changes for the 2018 VW Passat

The big news for this model year is obviously the better engine, which is an upgrade from a 1.8-liter form 2017 and earlier. This new 2.0-liter isn’t the only big news, however. For 2018, there are a total of six trims: S, R-Line, SE, SE w/Technology, GT and SEL Premium. The GT is a new trim level that will be released mid-model year and not only offers a sporty appearance package, but is fitted with the 3.5-liter V6 that was previously only available in the top-trim SEL Premium.

Of course, for the practical shopper, another big upgrade isn’t on that is as tangible as new parts or refreshed design: warranty coverage. The 2018 VW Passat benefits from the new Volkswagen People First Warranty, a bumper-to-bumper plan that lasts for six-years or 72,000 miles. This is twice as long as the previous new car limited warranty on earlier VW models, and twice the coverage that’s typical for the industry. Not only that, but the warranty is transferrable, which helps the Passat retain resale value.

The starting MSRP for the 2018 Volkswagen Passat is $22,995 for the S trim. Standard features include a six-speed automatic transmission with Sport and Tiptronic driving modes, automatic headlights with Coming/Leaving Home feature, a rearview camera with 5-inch touchscreen, and power windows and locks.
