The Volkswagen Atlas - At a Glance

The Atlas SUV first joined our collection a couple years ago as an all-new, three-row SUV that's perfect for Mount Pleasant, SC families who need space to ferry kids to soccer practice and for single professionals looking for a spacious, new ride.

The VW Atlas is powered by your pick of either a turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a 276-horsepower V6, and it comes in eight trim level options that can help your custom tailor your features and ride quality.

The Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport - At a Glance

The most recent addition to our exciting lineup, the Atlas Cross Sport shares a name and exterior design cues with the three-row Atlas. But it's a smaller SUV with two rows of seating and a five-passenger capacity.

When it comes to personalizing the Atlas Cross Sport for your needs, this smaller crossover has the same two engine options as the larger model, including the base four-cylinder with 235 horsepower and the upgraded V6. It also has three main trim levels, each of which can be tailored using a variety of specialty equipment packages.

The VW Atlas and the VW Atlas Cross Sport, a Side-By-Side Comparison

  • Size. As the larger of the two models, the VW Atlas is taller and longer than the Atlas Cross Sport. Both SUVs are 78.3 inches wide and have a 117.3-inch wheelbase. However, the Atlas is around three inches taller and three inches longer than the new Atlas Cross Sport.
  • Passenger capacity. Thanks to its standard three rows of seating, the larger Atlas SUV has a seven-passenger seating capacity, while the Atlas Cross Sport seats five people maximum in two rows.
  • Cargo space. Without the third row, the Atlas Cross Sport has a larger cargo hold area than the Atlas. With all three rows of seats in place, the VW Atlas holds around 20.6 cubic feet in the rear, while the Atlas Cross Sport cargo hold accommodates 40.3 cubic feet. However, both models offer cargo flexibility with backseats that fold, meaning you can carry much more in either SUV with the seats down.
  • Towing capacity. When you need an SUV that can help you tow your family boat from your home in Summerville to the boat launch, either SUV is up for the challenge. Equipped with the entry-level four-cylinder engine, both models can tow up to 2,000 pounds. Upgrade to the more-powerful V6, and you'll get a boost to 5,000 pounds of towing capacity for both the Atlas or the Atlas Cross Sport.
